  • Military Mottos/Slogans

There are a lot of mottos/slogans associated with different military units, some more appropriate and descriptive than others perhaps.

Personally, I think the US Army Rangers motto "Rangers Lead The Way" is an excellent example, capturing the essence of the current units history ( inspired by Rogers' Rangers in colonial times) and its status as a lean, quickstriking infantry force operating ahead of the main force.

It would nice to hear other similar catchphrases, specially for the lesser known units.

I don't know the unit name (maybe somebody can help me) but one of the units spraying defoliant in Vietnam had the motto: "Only you can prevent forests".

That was a take on Smokey the Bear "Only you can prevent forest fires".
Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the cheesemakers

    That's right bitches. I'm blessed!

      "Live n Die for VRI"

Well the guys thought it was catchy when I was in

VRI is on our unit badge by the way. Lets see if you guys know it.

In the 70s, I coined a phrase I thought was 'neat'.

'Ban the bomb, make the world safe for conventional warfare'.
Life is change. Built models for decades.
Not sure anyone here actually knows the real me.
      I didn't for a long time either.

            "Semper Gumby" ~ Always Flexible.
"FUBAR" ~ if explanation needed, you don't belong in this forum.
"First To Go, Last To Know" ~ USMC, I think, but others will lay claim also.
"We're Here Because We're Here" ~ sing to the tune of Auld Llang Syne. Over and over and over again.
"Oh Why Are We Waiting, Why Are We Waiting?" ~ sing to the tune of "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful"
            "Hurry up and wait"
"Your OTHER right, you 'orrible little man!" ~ I know that one well.

                      My favourite
                      "Peace is our Profession"
Air Force's Strategic Air Command (SAC's)
USAF SAC Original motto was "War is our Profession Peace is our Product"
"Peace is our Profession" was adopted about 12 years after the formation of SAC "

                      From "US Air Force Mottos
                      United States Air Force, USAF"
                      http://www.military-quotes.com/mottos/US-Air-Force.htm
In the wider scheme of things, I think SAC lived up to it's motto quite well, considering what it's formative task was.
Let's hope it is able to continue to do so.

"It's like shooting rats in a barrel."
"You'll be in a barrel if you don't watch out for the fighters!"

"Talking about airplanes is a very pleasant mental disease."

Well...back in Coastal infantry we had two:
"Blood and steel" and "First to go, last to leave".

In reconneissance we had "Always one step ahead".

                        EDIT:
                        Checked some others.
                        Finnish air force:
Qualitas Potentia Nostra = Quality is our Strength

                        Armored brigade:
Iske ja murra = "Strike and break through"

"Death before dismount" - tanker saying taken from "death before dishonor."

This however doesn't solely refer to the battlefield. Why walk 100 meters to an OPORDER or AAR when you have a tank, right??

I met a EOD guy who said they used "Never the red wire". I thought it was kinda funny.
