  • German WWII Topfmine Diagram

A very interesting diagram of a German WWII mine with the main body made of a mixture of wood pulp, cardboard pulp and tar to limit detection by metal detectors. Gives you a very good idea how a chemical detonator works. Crushing the little glass dome squashes two glass ampules of liquids that become explosive when combined.

To my knowledge, no WWII army had a landmine/booby trap program more extensive than Germany resulting in Allied causalities and also morale problems because occupying real estate that had been vacated by Germans was very dangerous.
