Anything by Ian Hogg is a good place to start.

The four books I came up with from my collection are:

German Army Handbook – by W.J.K Davies (great source on German equipment)

Russian Infantry Weapons – by A.J. Baker & John Walter (great source on Russian equipment)

Grenades & Mortars – Ballantine’s Illustrated History of a Violent Century, Weapons book # 37 – by Ian Hogg (good general info & cheap)

Infantry Weapons - Ballantine’s Illustrated History of a Violent Century, Weapons book #25 – by John Weeks (good general info & cheap)

Any or all of these are well worth the effort to find. Hope this helps.
