  • Poland Tank Destroyer.

Poland is interested in building up a strong anti tank capability with Tank Destroyers that's still in the concept phase that carries 24 Brimstone missiles.

They would be better served with a cannon carrying over 24 rounds.

You can attack from a good distance away a salvo of missiles which is much better then what a cannon can do.

Missiles limit you as well, and can be more expensive.

I like the concept, much cheaper and less strain on logistics. It’s not a new idea but the tech has matured enough to make it viable. In the past on ACG we’ve talked about the idea of VLS in vehicles and MBTs, it will be interesting to see what other ideas come out of this area. I can see more countries doing this.

Right up until it actually is a serious threat, then you get electronic warfare spoofing, decoys, jammers, and other countermeasures used against it...

Interesting concept. It will be interesting to see if it actually works under combat conditions. I ave the same reservations as others here have expressed.

Sounds like it is only a matter of time before VLS 'kits' (i.e. Brimstone) can be bolted onto the back of tractor-trailer low-boys in a modern version of the 'Technicals' employed in Ethiopia and the Middle East.

Maybe they can even make a version fit inside a regular trailer that can easily be taken off a container vessel and placed behind a semi-tractor, ready for deployment. IIRC, there was an SS-N-22 concept whereby Sunburn SSMs were placed upon commercial vessels in this manner.

First they have to find a target and then not lose a link (Laser and ?) from the target lock back to the missile. They have chemical smoke rounds now that can screen vehicles from the guidance systems they would use. The Libyans may not have countermeasures but the Russians will. Main Gun cannon rounds can be Smoke, HEAT, AP and HE to name a few. How many variations does this missile have? No matter if you call them "fire and forget", you still have to find the target before you can fire!

That hasn't stopped over 130 countries from having ATGMs, like everything else, the pros and cons have to be weighed up.

Since it's anti-armor it only needs one type of round - a penetrating round like the warhead on an RPG, which is good against many kinds of targets.

The Missiles are radar guided and according to the article it can lock on to a target when it’s over the target area so once recon finds out where they are they’ll launch salvos at them in the approximate area.
