  • US Army M1299 self propelled howitzer

The US Army is replacing their Paladins with the M1299 starting in 24 it fires a shell over 62km and is self loading firing up to 10 rounds a minute.
They should have bought the Crusader when they had the chance over 10 years ago.

In this day and age of gender equality, it would be most appropriate to name the Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) ERICA.

Why do you believe that the Crusader is better?

What nitwit is coming up with these numbering conventions????

Seriously, the Pentagon is fully of folk with the intellectual capacity of a broken wine glass.

They’ll probably spend an obscene amount of money to name it as well.

For those very few who haven't yet noticed, the military is madly in love with catchy acronyms, probably because the brass can't remember what the actual nomenclature was to begin with.

However, we should always remember that these are the same people who also brought us SNAFU, TARFU and FUBAR, along ith such family favorites as BOHICA and WETSU.

Why do new weapon systems HAVE to be automatic loading and use fewer people to fire them? We are at the point where the crews do not have enough people to maintain and fix breakdowns. Ever try to change a track on a tracked vehicle with only three people? Notice I am being nongender specific? If a woman wants to be a combat specialty she should be able to do all the tasks. They don't expect women to help put up large tents any more?

What is WETSU, that is new to me?
