    Close enough, It's a MAS 49/56, this example is in the original 7.5 French, a lot of those imported here were converted to .308 with only marginal success.

    Correct, this one is a Chinese Type 56 I brought back from Vietnam in 1969, it came from a cache found in the Mekong Delta.
    As far as I know all SKS Rifles fired a 7.62X39 cartridge.
    I have a friend who has one his father picked up in Vietnam. It takes the shorter 7.62x33 Kruz Soviet copy round. It's a major PITA to find rounds for it.
