  • A two part question

Can you name the weapon (part 1) and explain the flair of the muzzle (part 2) ? Part 1 is easy, part 2 is medium.

    • I would guess it is a Blunderbus. The flair of the muzzle is to facilitate easier loading or to help the spread of shot depending where you read!

      • Nailed it Wolster! From what I understand the flared barrel didn't make any difference in the spread of the shot, but it did make loading easier. Interestingly, several years ago I saw tests done on modern modified shotgun barrels that showed a flattened fan shaped muzzle spread the shot rather dramatically, in a narrow, wide pattern.

My brother is an executive somewhere in that department for SAAB and I am always amazed when he tells me about what new "toys" they are planning to bring to the market. It however sucks that Sweden i.e the home market havent catched on completely.

                    Correct!

It fires darts of 7.62 x 36 caliber either above or underwater. The effective range is reported at 30 meters above water, with a report barely louder than an MP5SD. Underwater, the effective range is 10-15 meters.

                    • That's the trouble with living in Colorado - not enough underwater time!

                      Pretty neat gadget.

                      • I remember reading about the underwater guns when I was in junior high. It was either Guns N Ammo or Gung Ho. I used to buy both periodically. I still have the Gung Ho issues profiling the 82nd and Rangers along with a few others somewhere in a box.
