  • Russian UR-77 mine clearing vehicle in Syria.

    Looks like a devastating weapon in an urban environment.

      That's nothing compared to the British Python.

      I prefer something like this.

      Paul
      ‘Tis said his form is tiny, yet
      All human ills he can subdue,
      Or with a bauble or medal
      Can win mans heart for you;
      And many a blessing know to stew
      To make a megloamaniac bright;
      Give honour to the dainty Corse,
      The Pixie is a little shite.

              From what I've read, it's also been used in Chechnya and Angola. Anyone have any sources to verify this?

                Well budget cuts and all that. I mean we did have a plan for a bipedal mech and all that but you know how it goes.

                  I don't have rock solid sources for Angola, but UR-77 was used in pretty much every conflict Russians were involved since Afganistan, including East Ukraine. They also developed UR-83P system which is used without vehicle.

                  Previus UR-67 on BTR-50 platform was used by Egypt, whose combat experience was used to produce improved UR-77, and some systems were sent to Iraq after it was replaced in Soviet service.

                  By the way, Russian nickname is Zmey Gorynych, folkloristic dragon-like creatur with three heads.

                    Thx Nikola, I think the nickname is quite apt for what it can do.

                      I heard nations that are very clever at manufacturing land mines, like the Italians, have already devised mine fuses that resist clearance by detonating cord. The mines will refuse to go off and wait for and actual tank or person.
