  • Maji Maji Rebellion

Recently I stumbled across this article on Wikipedia on the Maji Maji Rebellion of 1905-1907. It discusses Imperial Germany's response to the rebellion involving two cruisers and their embarked marines (somewhere on the order of 50 per the book The Scramble for Africa: White Man's Conquest of the Dark Continent from 1876-1912). I'm curious if anyone knows which cruisers responded to the rebellion?

The book states that the cruisers came from a squadron in the Indian Ocean and Pacific area and furthermore these marines were reinforced by 150 from one of the Seebattalionen. The book does not mention which battalion or which garrison, however.

I know next to nothing about this conflict, but the two cruisers appear to be SMS Seeadler and SMS Thetis .

      Thank you.

The SMS Seeadler, per wikipedia, was a sailing and steam powered ship, correct?
