  • Battle of Hastings, 1066

A well-written (and well-ornamented) website tells the history of the famous battle.

This battle began with a bizarre action taken by a Norman ministrel (singer/entertainer) named Taillefer. This individual charged the English lines all by himself while performing a juggling act in the saddle; he was juggling his sword and spear. The show lasted for a several minutes and entertained the Saxon huskarls a great deal until Taillefer flung his spear at them killing a huskarl instantly. The Saxons promptly cut him down and all hell broke loose on the battlefield.
