  • Polish National Cavalry

I'm posting a photo of a reenactor wearing the uniform and insignia of a companion of Poland's National Cavalry, 1775 and later.

What's significant about this trooper is that this was the successor of the winged hussars which were abolished by the Polish Senate in 1775 and replaced with a new service called the National Cavalry.

The act of the Senate was mostly symbolic because by 1775 the winged hussars had become mostly ceremonial formations as they were too expensive for the impoverished Polish state to deploy and maintain in the required numbers.
