      • Takes me back a few years, but I always noticed the resemblance.

Too close to Riker's- IIRC- which I always desperately tried to avoid.

        In return:

              5. New York Central Rail Road Bridge, Central Bridge, Schoharie County, NY

In 1987, the NYS Thruway (I-90) bridge that spanned the Schoharie Creek collapsed in the night, sending several drivers plunging into the drink. Since the Thruway is a vital artery between the eastern and western halves of the State, Thruway officials decided to press into service an old, disused, nearby NYCRR bridge temporarily, while a replacement was erected. At that point, the Thruway runs along the top of a long ridge, while the rail bridge was at the base of that escarpment some 800 yards to the north. First, they had to lay a new four-lane highway down the hill: from east to west, first a 90° right turn at the top of the hill, followed by a 90° left turn at the bottom, then across the old bridge. The hill was so steep, and the left turn so sharp, however, that large tandem tractor trailers (which at the time were restricted to the Thruway only) might be going too fast to make the turn, so a large inclined ramp was built straight north when the road turned west, at the end of which was a sand pit followed by bumpers. To the best of my knowledge that was the first time such a system was used to arrest out-of-control trucks.

                            12. Bahia Honda Bridge - part of the Florida Overseas Railroad connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key.

Since the railway is no longer (it ceased operation in 1935 following the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935), a few sections were removed to allow boats to pass through. Its now a fishing pier.
