        6. Roscoe Conkling - US Senator from NY (R) patronage magnate, political fixer, and king-maker extraodinaire. He's the one who got the US Supreme Court to view corporations as "persons" vis a vis the 14th Amendment -- and may have purjured himself in the process.

They don't look too happy here. Some bad news?

US Grant always struck me as (eventually) brilliant in the US Army, but totally at sea in commerce or politics.

Wonder if there is a re-enactment every year?

Every year, with descendents of both Hamiton's and Burr's taking part.

                    8. Marion Barry - no matter what the guy does, he keeps getting reelected. Perhaps that's how his constituents wished to be viewed by the wider society: as drug abusing, skirt chasing, ***** mongering, self-reinforcing delusional degenerates.

This one looks like his recent perp-walk.

What's he doing to that poor horse?

Barry appearing with Rev Louis Farrakhan. I guess after covering for Nation of Islam founder Elijah Mohammed for all those years, hanging with Marion was no big deal.

Barry with Bill Clinton: two men who just can't say no -- at least to trim. At least Clinton didn't inhale.

                    Barry at his crack-smoking best.

I bet that your mayor isn't that much fun.

For 21 years the boss of Chicago politics. During the 1968 Demoratic Convention at a press conference related he told the police chief "I said to him very emphatically and very definitely that an order be issued by him immediately to shoot to kill any arsonist or anyone with a Molotov cocktail in his hand, because they're potential murderers, and to shoot to maim or cripple anyone looting."

Our Canadian cousins have been strangely silent on this particular list: perhaps they believe that Canadian politics is above these sorts of shenanigans. Well -- it ain't! Just a couple of weeks ago The Economist reported some mob and local government-related goings-on in Montreal. Indeed, a five second google search has revealed quite the little closet of skeletons stored up north. Since one name seemed to turn up with a certain laughable regularity, I'll be proud to plant his name on this corrupt politicians' list. I hearby nominate fromer Canadian prime minister:

                          11. Jean Chrétien
