                        • Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad

This electrified, interurban railway operated between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee Railroad from the early 1900s to 1963. Along with neighboring railroads, this railroad (known as the North Shore RR) was generally responsible for the growth of Chicago's northern suburbs between World War I and just past World War II. One of its hallmark trains was the Electroliner, shown here leaving Milwaukee for its run to Chicago. Relying on electricity, this ultramodern -shaped passenger train gave riders a spectacular ride while traveling between the two cities somewhere under 90 minutes, a feat during its days of operation between the late 1930s and 1963 and before interstate highway automobile travel became popular.
