                          • Um, are you sure, Dan? This picture is of the Battle of Kulikovo, and the varangians had long ceased to exist by then. I don't know if Josh meant the dynasty itself or everything connected to it, though.

                              Well, I did mean the actual dynasty, but anything connected to it is fine too, but that painting isn't of Vagangians for sure.

                                Honestly, I had never heard the term Varangian before this thread and wouldn't know one if he (or she) came up and bit me. My knowledge of Russian history is a great as my knowledge of quantum physics. I just typed Varangian into the computer and this is one of the images that came up, so blame GIGO for the mix-up. However, because of you guys sharing what you know with the rest of us, my knowledge of such is increasing exponentially, so thanks.

                                I tried again and this time I came up with a picture that I'm sure depicts a couple of real Varangian Rus warriors.
