HELL NO ... I went behind the Iron Curtain in 1986 and saw that communism there and then later from 2004 to the present to Vietnam once a year and I see that communism every year. And I sure as hell dont want the socialism neither.

If the "common farmer" was, as you are all suggesting, going to be much better off in a paradise of communism being able to keep and farm and do as they pleased with the land of their ancestors read this.

Thanks GRA for your candid and accurate post. It would seem that John, Bo Archer, and wolfhnd have not had sufficient knowledge, or are lacking totally in knowledge, of 99% of a population living under a communist system.

BTW, the upwards of 300,000 South Vietnam supporters of a democratic free government, including the brave soldiers of ARVN, who we abandoned, were not in the paradise suggested by the above posters after the fall of Saigon. SMH

              ?????????

The North was a Communist Dictatorship in the 60s and 70s under Ho Chi Minh. The South a Capitalist system with corrupt leaders. If the North was fighting for the freedom of the Vietnamese people, why did so many people in the South risk their lives to flee from the Communist? I will even use a Left Wing Source.

The first wave of sea refugees were generally accepted by host countries. However, towards the end of the 80s, with refugee numbers increasing, resources depleting, and host countries changing their policies, the UN Refugee Committee implemented new rules designed to discourage and lessen boat people. New screening processes designed to distinguish between political and economic refugees meant that many were repatriated back to their home countries. The screening process was also subject to corruption and bribery, especially after the UNHCR left vetting authority to local Indonesian officials. As the mid 90s approached, refugee camps on the brink of closure, protests were staged and people were imprisoned. By 1996 the Galang Refugee Camp, one of the largest camps in Indonesia, closed and people returned to Vietnam, both voluntarily and by force.

I don't know why we have to repeat ourselves but we made it clear that communism is a separate issue.

Something has always motivated the peasant to fight religion, national pride, oppression. Bo is suggesting that the Vietnamese peasant was fighting to be left alone not for communism. Those peasants were already highly communal and probably didn't make the important distinctions between Marxism and other forms of tribalism.

                    Attention! Attention!

Sunday night MSNBC will have a special program of one hour in which supposedly some newly revealed govt. documents will be disclosed in regards to the issue of did Richard Nixon commit treason and cause an extension of the Vietnam War around 1968. Since the program is called BETRAYAL we can assume the documents will collaborate the already very strong case that Tricky Dicky did in fact commit a criminal act of treason before he even took Office.
This is truly a great "Truth About The Vietnam War" that has been strongly suppressed by the Deep State.

just a personal observation from my few conversations with some south Vietnamese while there. The feelings of the people concerning communism and or our side and "democracy" were just as varied as the political divisions in our country. the difference being that when I was there in 1971 those people had been involved in war for over 20 years. Both "sides" were just sick of the constant war. The communists came out on top because after the united states left the south hanging on their own they had more resources and had the stronger "whip" . The ARVN in most cases simply gave up because they had lost the will to continue. I am sure more than a few decided whats worse; dying, or living in a communist controlled country.

I agree on the most part, be we did not have the political will to support them and turned tail, April 30 1975 was one of my worst days of my life, it will go with me to my grave!

I've long thought we did not make a very good decision by leaving the way we did. We should've found a way to formally stay and thus been a thorn in their side the whole time.

I watched and recorded the MSNBC documentary BETRAYAL and it meet all expectations. The Truth for all Americans to see if only they cared to do so. What a shame over the lack of interest and outrage! See it on the replay Friday night!

I cannot and will not waste my time giving any attention whatsoever to anything at all from MSNBC. They have absolutely NO CREDIBILITY with me at all and they have my perpetual vote of NO CONFIDENCE whatsoever.
