  • Canberra to review awarding of Viet vet medals

    Australian Vietnam veterans see the Battle of Long Tan as the quintessential episode of their involvement in the conflict.
    But for years, they've been angry and mystified as to why commendations for bravery awards were downgraded or ignored completely. The Federal Government today announced a review of the awarding of medals for the 1966 battle.

      I'm sure it's entirely coincidental that this was announced on the same day as the election was called...at least vetreans might finally get something for their sacrifice.
      Colonel Summers' widely quoted critique of US strategy in the Vietnam War is having a modest vogue...it is poor history, poor strategy, and poor Clausewitz to boot - Robet Komer, Survival, 27:2, p. 94.

        41 years later! - IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!! Hats off to those brave 'Diggers'. If this is just about politics, it's disgraceful. These men should have received due credit long before now.

          This biggest problem I have with this is that it is hard to get books by Aussie vets about VN on this side of the big lake

            - not sure of international but they should have a contact to ask.
            I am not stuck in the 60's and 70's -I choose to live there :)
