  • Napoleon's definate height.

I've heard that his height ranges from 5'2 (which has been largely disproved by this point) and 5'8. The other common numbers are 5'7 and 5'6.

Is there any definite source that points to his true height?

    Average Height

Napoleon's height was 5'2", but in French feet, a French foot being three-quarters of an inch longer than an English foot. In English feet, Napoleon was about 5'61/2" tall, or about average for the period.

Col Elting makes a point of this in The Superstrategists.

    Sincerely,

I agree at about the 5ft 6ins mark, 'give or take' as being his height.

Since I'm not very good in English and French feet, being a German, how much is 5,6 feet in meters and centimeters? 1,63 perhaps?

What! Tom thumbs understudy! Nah, not me. I once had a 1to1 scale figure of him on my key ring until it slipped off and made a little splosh sound as it disapeared through the griddle of a drain, and on another occasion I lost the little bugger on the wargames table, until I moved the figure of Lannes, and lo and behold, found him under Rostans armpit, telescope in hand and looking rather ill.

A 20mm figure of the little man in the funny 'at fits perfectly... with 28mm sowjers.

In his biography of Napoleon, VIncent Cronin says 5 feet 6 inches.

I have also read that the average frenchman was about 5 feet 8 inches at the time.

I personally have read 5'4. And remember, he was pretty short even by French standards. So, I think he was probably between 5'3 and 5'6

Well, Stephen Fry on QI (the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom) said 5 feet 6 inches the ther day, that's good enough for me.
