Is that the book that Historex Agents had for sale for 'iirc' about £95 a few years ago? If It was, Do you know how good it was, as I was going to buy a copy but decided to buy a couple of Le Cimier 180mm Figures instead (the Hussar and Chasseur, Fusilier of the guard)

‘Tis said his form is tiny, yet
All human ills he can subdue,
Or with a bauble or medal
    Can win mans heart for you;
And many a blessing know to stew
    To make a megloamaniac bright;
Give honour to the dainty Corse,
The Pixie is a little shite.

      Hi there
      Yes, it may have been.
If I remember correctly I got mine from another source but did pay about £95.
      It was published in 2006.

In a way I have regretted the decision ever since, as the hussar is half completed and the Chasseur-Fusilier is still awaiting the caress of my Kolinskis.

Any chance you could post just one insie winsie page from the book?

              No problem.
I had a problem logging into the site earlier today.
Maybe the server was down for a while.

Can you do me a favour and check for the last date that I 'repped' you because I did try yesterday morning but the box just wouldn't come up.

                Cheers

                  Sorry Paul
                  Being terribly thick this morning.
By 'repped' I assume you mean a post on here or a private message??
I thought there were 2 very similar postings yesterday but now there is only the one? Did you try twice??

At the top of this page you will see this advert....

and just below it you will see a thick black horizontal (Line) tab bar with the words User cp, Faq/Forum rules, Members list etc, etc. If you hover your cursor point over the User cp and click, you will get your Reputation page up that will show little green squares, the post title, the reputation giver and then (but not always) a message.

Then if you go to this ACG 'Basic training forum' link, it will tell you all about the reputation system (Repping)

                    • I think I posted this in the wrong place so I'll try it here...

Did any of the French Cuirassiers leave a personal memoir of his service, if so is there an English translation?

The long toll of the brave
                      Is not lost in darkness
                      Over the fruitful earth
                      And athwart the seas
Hath passed the light of noble deeds
                      Unquenchable forever.

                          • Hooray! I have this very morning took possession of 'The Very Thing' ISBN: 9781848325982 by Jonathan Crook, and forwarded by Donald E. Graves. This is the tome that's about the exploits of my ancestor, Richard Bentinck of which I have mentioned before many times. The delivery of the book comes at a time when I had recieved just the night before, an E.mail From Richard asking me for my address so he could send me a copy. I felt very humbled and accepted his kind offer. I did tell him that I had already pre-ordered a copy but (Pushing my luck a tad) if he signed the one he was sending me, I would send the one that I had ordered on to my oldest brother and keep his signed one in pride of place on my 'Favourits' bookcase. So now all I have to do is read the one that I will send on to my Brother, and keep the signed copy in a pristine, unopened condition.

Oh yes! In a past post (about the middle of last year) I posted an e.mail on this site that was to me from Jonathan, asking if I would like to go over the manuscript and look for any errors and give my thoughts. I kindly refused his offer thinking that I would be rather biased in my appraisal. Well!, a few months later I changed my mind, took possession of an attachment that was 193 pages long (The illustrations excluded) and decided that I would give my opinion but kept it rather conservative.

When I said that my review was conservative, I meant with a big 'C'

                            here's what I posted:

                            Jonathan

I have had a quick read of your tome, and as far as I'm concerned it is pretty good 'in the rough' and having the notes at the end of each chapter helped as I for one hate to have to go to the end pages of a book to look them up. Is this format staying within the books layout or are the powers that be going to shuffle them all off to the end?.

Examples of the departure of The regiment to Gibraltar without Richard 'It must have been hard; (immediately reminded me of Sam Baggins' farewell to Frodo at the Grey Havens in the Lord of the Rings)', and his humane act towards his 'favourite' Captain Jacob Cortland in his distress and death are vignettes that make a story worth telling.

As a person who isn't an historian, a writer, and had inherited the project from his uncle; you have done a pretty good job.

                            Well done sah!

                            Paul

And here's my last post to the Author.

Thank you for your kind offer (I'm rather bowled over), I had already ordered a copy as soon it was put up for pre-order on the Pen and Sword website. you and your uncle did a lot of work to get the book together, It's only right that I fork out a few Pounds for the privilege of owning a copy. If though, you intend to sign the copy for me, then I would be extremely grateful to accept your kind offer, keep the copy in pride of place on my 'favourites' bookcase and send the copy that I am awaiting on, to my Brother Robert.

                            My address is:
                            **ADDRESS ERASED**

With all the kindest regards to you and yours and also a hope that the book is a success.

                            Take care

                            Paul

Sorry If this post is a bit of a bore but I thought some of you would like to know.

Of some interest as an old school friend of mine was commissioned in the RWF and finished up retiring as a Colonel.
