  • Bataillon de flottille or Equipage de flottille 1808-1810/1810-1814

    Hello,

    I'am searching for some pics of regular units of french navy. Internet is full of pictures of "marins de la garde", but there are not any pic of french sailors from 1808-14 period... I have some Knoetl's pictures and some Job's picutre...

                      The New York Public Library is, indeed, a good source!

                      • I wasn't sure If It had been posted before. But I was wondering, what year did the Grenadiers switch from Bearskins to Shakos, I thought it was 1802, but was unsure.

                        And I was also wondering where a good source might be found on French Naval Uniforms, I have plenty on English Uniforms from Nautical Maritime Museum, but cannot find anything on the French...

                              Is this what you are looking for

                              The page is taken from the book in the link below. It is a cracking publication telling the story of the Grenadiers, warts and all!

                              All human ills he can subdue,
                              Or with a bauble or medal
                              Can win mans heart for you;
                              And many a blessing know to stew
