In 1810, during the reunion of Holland to France, the Regiment of Foot Grenadiers of the Dutch Royal Guard ( Regiment de Grenadiers de la Garde Royale Hollandaise ) was incorporated into the French Imperial Guard as the 2nd Regiment of Grenadiers a Pied ( Foot Grenadiers ).

Their commander was Ralph-Dundas Tindal, a tall Scot with a sentorian voice. They had as a drum-major one named Siliakus. He was a giant ( 202 cm tall! ) born in Holland, and he died in Russia during the retreat.

In 1811, after another Grenadier regiment was raised, the former Dutch Grenadiers were renumbered as the 3rd Regiment of Foot Grenadiers.

The 3rd Regiment of [Dutch] Grenadiers participated in the Russian campaign. During the winter retreat they have suffered very heavy losses. They fought well in Krasne (Krasnoe). By February 1st 1813, The 3rd Grenadiers had only 11 men in the ranks ( out of 1.496 ).

Napoleon disbanded the regiment and some Dutchmen ended up in the 2nd Grenadiers.
