Although I very much like the carabiniers, and the kettledrummer of Empress dragoons is lovely, the Polish Guard cavalry kettledrummer wins for me. I have never seen a model of the latter.

Marshal Lannes was the titular Colonel ( Colonel-General ) of the Swiss troops in French service.

I did not know Lannes was in a red uniform do you know the time periods on
this Zouave it would be helpful to know what battles he may have worn his
red uniform in.

I don't know if he ever wore it in battle. Probably not. Napoleon appointed him Colonel-General of the Swiss in September 1807.

So it would have "maybe" been worn to balls as parade
dress of full uniform "if I have it correct" but not in Battle which would
make sense why he was never seen in it on a battle field or in a portrait.

Apparently, he wore a tonned down version of this uniform at some point of the second siege of Saragossa ( 1809 ).

The other good thing about those photos is that they were taken outdoors on a sunny day, much better than in a studio.

A friend of mine send me those photos. Apparently, they were taken somewhere in France.

My jaw is somewhere near the floor after looking at these images, absolutly first rate. I think for me it has to be the Hussar uniform that steals the show, in any national garb. Having only recently become interested in the period most of my images have come from artists sketches. Then one day a friend recommened I watch "The Duellists" by Ridley Scott, the tailoring and re-production of the main protagonists unforms were a joy to behold and for me are the most beautiful examples of Napoleonic Uniforms.



I wonder what happened to the uniforms? Imagine keeping them as a momento!
