  • Information about the Royal Marines - 1810-1815

    Hello everyone!

    Im looking for some indepth information about the Royal Marines that fought on land, mainly the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalion (formed 1810 and forward).

    Did each battalion have light & grenadier coys, or did they only have center companies. Did they have an ensign and colours?

    If anyone has the answers, please let me know!

    Flank Companies were 'officially' abolished in November 1804.

    ‘Tis said his form is tiny, yet
    All human ills he can subdue,
    Or with a bauble or medal
    Can win mans heart for you;
    And many a blessing know to stew
    To make a megloamaniac bright;
    Give honour to the dainty Corse,
    The Pixie is a little shite.

      Dear Mr. Paul, when you say " 'officially'", does it mean that those companies continued to exist for some time after 1804? If so, by what date were they no more in existence?

        By 1805. Problem was that companies may not have known of the abolition for some weeks after due to them being overseas, at sea and on station.
