      .....believe it or not, ive been in a 12 SQN Chinook when it did one of these "drops", ...back in the days when 12 SQN and 9 SQN held the rights of rotary wing aviation in the ADF....

                      ah...just an in-house phrase used back in day...basically all tactical helicopter aviation units were strictly RAAF, so in this case you had 12 SQN using Chinooks, and 9 SQN stood up to use the then new Blackhawks. Then it was decided that the Army should take ownership of this assets, as they were using Kiowa light scout helos and also Hueys handed down form the RAAF when the Blackhawk came on board. Air force basically camped out with the army for months ata time anyway, so it just made sense, all the flying personel were transferred over the army, with equivilent army rank, and the chnage was made.
