  • Chirac stirs it up again.

It's OK everybody - we can go back to having a go at the French again, because they are stirring it up once more.

Yeah, even their colonial subjects took them to the cleaners. Maybe they should hire mercenaries for national security duties.

They seem repeatedly to suffer from foot-in-mouth disease, not to mention the dread cranium rectumitis.

That's why they started the French Foreign Legion. Get soldiers from countries that actually win wars to come fight for the French. Good plan actually.

There's good reason for it. Fighting just isn't in France's blood. Give this a think: Almost every country has some heroic stand against insurmountable odds at some point in history, even if it wasn't succesful. The British during the Battle of Britain, the Americans in the Philippines, the Russians at Leningrad, Germany in Berlin, etc. (I just used WWII because it was the most recent example for most countries). France never has had one of those. Just food for thought.

They have, IIRC, observer status in NATO.

They did withdrawal, perhaps they retain a some kind special standing?

In fact, they withdrew only from the military command structure(1966), they remain a part of the NATO Secretariat.

In any event, they remain. . . . the French. Fit only for disdain, derision, contempt and disrepute.

You know... technically there was the time where the French conquered most of Europe...
