  • Which General Would You Like to Meet?

If you could meet any general* from any era in history (linguistic problems aside), who would you like to meet?

Would you to meet a great one and learn from him? Or would you rather meet a loser and ask what the heck he was thinking?

And when you meet your general, what would you talk about?

I think I'd like to meet Batu Khan, who commanded the Mongol invasion of Europe in 1241AD to learn more about the operational art from one of the masters.

    *Including kings, princes, emirs, etc.

I'd like to be present when Hannibal Barca n' Scipii Africanus met each other at old age. Just to listen to their conversation would be great.

I'd like to meet Pershing, Rommel, Patton, Julius Caesar, and Carl Von Clausewitz. I know it's not exactly 1, but I couldn't think of only 1.

To many to list, in regions and eras that span history. But i would indeed love to me Louis Nicolas Davout, Marshal of France, and the greatest of the little corporal's fighting men.

François-Guy Hourtoulle wrote of the Iron Marshal: "At Jena, Napoleon won a battle he could not lose. At Auerstädt, Davout won a battle he could not win".

After him, my choice would be Gaius Marius. The savior of Rome from the hordes of the North ie. the Teutones and Cimbri.
