    Very interesting, nice find. Thanks for sharing it!

    I took a Civil War summer seminar in the late 90s, and one of the assignments was to write a soldiers biography using his pension file. One I pulled was not available because there was, at the time, a still active claim on benefits for that man.

    We figured he was one of the many old vet who married young women, this union producing a child with physical and/or mental impairments who was still alive and receiving financial aid from his father's service.
