  • Need some Rev War pictures

    Gentlemen:

As you may know, I live and work in a British-led Division headquarters in Basrah, Iraq. You may also know that Independence Day is fast approaching. We Americans plan to whoop it up, as Americans are wont to do.

However, I need your help. I need some good photos representing American independence. I have found a few on the internet, but nothing spectacular. I have a few small shots of Geo Washington, Geo III, and some of the flags of the era. I'd like some good colonial militia/continental army/navy photos or anything that represents the revolution.

Send me photos of your favorite generals and battles (US victories only -- Geo III can represent the UK) -- maybe a good shot of the surrender at Yorktown, etc. Post them here or send me the links. I will especially value emailed bitmaps, since I can print them HUGE -- send to jeffrey.c.smith(at)us.army.mil.

The goal is to show American pride and revolution!

    I appreciate your help.

              Jeff

What is the flag in the first picture I posted. I see the British one but the other read with a white square and a tree in it?

I believe that was a flag from one of the colonies. I'm guessing New Hampshire. The picture was the death of British Major Thomas Pitcairn and American leader Dr. Joseph Warren. The painting was at a point in the Battle of Bunker Hill when the Americans started retreating after holding back two assaults by the British. They were retreating because they were running out of ammo.
I come here to discuss a piece of business with you and what are you gonna do? You're gonna tell me fairy tales? James Caan in the movie "Thief" ca 1981

For some reason, it's not a big celebration over here...

You know, I was horribly confused, and thus clicked on this thread because it was called "...Rev War photos"
“To discriminate against a thoroughly upright citizen because he belongs to some particular church, or because, like Abraham Lincoln, he has not avowed his allegiance to any church, is an outrage against that liberty of conscience which is one of the foundations of American life.”

Well, we had some but they were just snapshots really - not worth posting here.
