    Ah, the Arkansas toothpick or Bowie Knife. Very quick and deadly in skilled hands. Much more skill involved then in dueling pistols, another method often used to settle disputes back then.

      Ron, not sure about your terminology. I know some use the terms Arkansas Toothpick and Bowie synonymously but I think Arkansas Toothpick originally referred to a dagger.

        The confusion probably stems from the fact the Arkansas Toothpick and Bowie Knife were invented by the same man (James Black). You are correct, that Arkansas Toothpick is generally a large throwing dagger.
