  • London Olympic Mascots

Just what the heck are these things supposed to be you might ask?
According to The Daily Telegraph, they are Wenlock and Mandeville:

The one-eyed figures, called Wenlock and Mandeville, were unveiled at an east London school on Wednesday with organisers hoping they will inspire a generation of children and persuade their parents to contribute the £15 million the mascots are slated to raise in merchandising revenue.

Two parts-Pokemon to one-part lava lamp with yellow 'Taxií lights on their foreheads, the distinctive characters are intended to capture the imagination of children and work as well in the digital world as they will in costume form at trackside in 2012.

    Seen the logo?

I haven't been able to look at it the same way after a comedien pointed out that it looks like Lisa Simpson performing a sex act, shall we say.

I heard that the bill for London's olympics is going to be a wee bit higher than originally advertised. With that in mind, shouldn't 2012's mascot look like this:

with a wallet yanked out of her posterior?

That would be more appropriate, wouldn't it?

If I were a Briton, I'd cry but since I'm not, I'll just

The IOC sniffed you chumps out from a thousand miles away, eh?

As if anyone from New York has the stones to criticise The Smoke, given what they have to put up with in terms of taxes, bad government, bad sporting projects management...

Geez, but they're ugly! Both the logo and the mascots!

That said, I hope to be in London for the Paralympics. One of my student athletes has an excellent chance to be on the US team in 2012!

You sons of Perfidious Albion really know how to hit below the belt, don't you?

Hey, how much did this eyesore

set back London's taxpayers: £68 million GBP?

Ugly AND expensive. Now that's a winning combination.

Based on ridership since its opening, the Eye hasn't done badly. And its a wonderful ride and view!

Profitable and much loved if you don't mind

Over 30 million people have ridden on it since it opened and last year it made a profit of 25 million GBP

Seems the Canadian press are gunning for our belov'd mascots. They had their noses put out of joint when UK papers pointed out what a garbage winter olympics the Canadians put on.

                      1,2,3,4, I smell a trade war!
