  • World Cup Debacle!

Move the World Cup in Qatar from summer to winter to avoid the 50 degree summer desert temperatures? So the EPL and other European leagues will be totally disrupted for several seasons.

Don't move it to winter, move it to Australia or the US!

Bloody idiots! They knew about the temperature issue when they were deciding who should be awarded the right to host the competition. Why the hell did they choose Qatar over the US, Australia and other bids?

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has told Sky Sports News that moving the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to winter would not be realistic due to its impact on domestic leagues.

Temperatures in the Gulf state can reach 50°C during the summer and, although stadiums can be cooled, FIFA president Sepp Blatter said it was “not rational to play in June-July” as “you can’t cool down the whole country”.

Blatter confirmed he would request that the World Cup be held in winter, and has the support of UEFA president Michel Platini, but the switch would force a number of domestic leagues to make significant calendar changes.
The Premier League has already made its opposition to a winter World Cup clear, and Scudamore said on Thursday that FIFA should reopen the 2022 voting as Qatar had bid on the basis that it would stage a summer tournament.

“At the end of the day, FIFA made a decision which is for none of us to comment on,” Scudamore said. “They decided the World Cup will be in the summer in Qatar. “Our view is, if that is deemed not possible by FIFA, they need to move the location. We can't just, on a whim, decide to move to the winter. It's extremely difficult -- nigh-on impossible in our view.''

“There's a whole series of complications and consultation has to be separate with leagues on a global basis to make sure it works for everyone before a decision is made.”

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke said last week that it would be “impossible” to hold the tournament in the summer in Qatar but added: "I understand the reaction of the Premier League to not want to move it. I have some sympathy with them.

“They didn't have to choose to give it to Qatar in the summer but that's where it is. It will either have to be moved out of the summer or to another location. I suspect the former is more likely than the latter."

That's actually a good point quite apart from the temperature issue. Qatari residents can indeed easily afford to travel to and stay in any foreign location. But what about everyone else who now have to fly to Qatar and stay in the incredibly expensive hotels there?

Those suits at FIFA should be slaughtered in public during the half time break in an otherwise dull lower division game.

Those Qatari dudes must have gotten some really outstanding hookers, at least as good as the bimbo that shined the NYS governor's knob.

I would be more worried about Security being an issue but I guess it can be handled fairly well?

Emirates Stadium in North London is an example of a "FIFA Approved" venue, and that cost some £390 million, or $625 million -- and it's not domed. Seattle's Safeco Field, with its retractable dome came in at $520 million, but it seats 20,000 fewer than Emirates. These are staggering figures, to say the least. A World Cup requires at least ten or twelve world-class venues, each seating at least 65,000, and with various amenities mandatory under FIFA rules. The Qataris are rich, filthy rich even, but they're not that rich. No one in his right mind will ever plop down $5 billion on football stadia.

They can always move it to Dubai. They have a dome stadium that can hold 10,000. Their outdoor stadium holds 60,000.

Off topic, but the report today is that the new Dallas Stadium uses more power during a game than Liberia uses in an day. Darn, and we sent all those people to Liberia,

Just goes to show that it sucks to live in Liberia.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

But if it was awarded to Australia or the US a lot of the money would of been saved with the rest being spent upgrading current venue capacity with Maybe 1 or stadiums rebuilt also if held in Australia you could of held the world cup in the off season in our winter pretty much a win win for everyone.
