Things not to do when calling a sports radio talk show:

Don't call in and try to establish your credentials, based upon how long you've been a fan:

First of all, I've been a Red Sox fan since 1958, and.....

This holds true for all callers to talk shows:
              • There's no way to verify the stated credentials.
              • The credentials are irrelevant to the validity (or lack thereof) of the caller's point.

I've been a Mets fan since I knew what a baseball was... I can give you the 1969 roster from memory, batting order and pitching rotation...
              1) Tommie Agee - CF
              2) Bud Harrelson - SS
              3) Cleon Jones - LF
              4) Donn Clendennon - 1B
              5) Ron Swoboda/Art Shamsky - RF
              6) Ed Charles/Wayne Garrett - 3B
              7) Jerry Grote - C
              8) Al Weiss - 2B
              9) Pitcher
              1) Tom Seaver - RHP
              2) Jerry Koosman - LHP
              3) Gary Gentry - RHP
              4) Don Cardwell - RHP
              5) Jim McAndrew - RHP

The bullpen included Tug McGraw - LHP, Nolan Ryan - RHP, Ron Taylor - RHP.

But I don't know jack about the team today.

Don't follow the precept of tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, and tell them what you told them, like they taught us how to write hard-hitting business memos at W. R. Grace. In other words, don't call in and say something like:

I'm calling in to make two comments so let me finish and don't cut me off and then I'll hang up to listen to what you guys have to say. I want to talk about what they should do with Youkilis and what they should do with Dice-k. With Youkilis I think.....

Don't call in and mention that you met the host somewhere, and expect that the host remembers you out of the hundreds or thousands of people he meets:

And up next, Keith from Lexington:

Hi Lou, I wanted to talk about the Patriot's draft. We talked at the BC football banquet, I told you the Patriots should draft two down lineman, remember me? I was the guy with the red hair, and.....
