Well, the winos I see every day are as a rule very trim people.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

Because alcoholics don't spend their money on food.

In fact, alcohol breaks down into sugar, so alcohol alone from any source generates as much "fat" as anything else does if the person also eats, but in the absence of food, the body begins consuming itself in a process called catabolism in order to obtain the necessary proteins and carbohydrates to sustain life.

Alcoholics take in enough sugar to keep the basics going, but not enough to sustain body mass otherwise. And, of course, being drunk all of the time suppresses appetite pretty effectively, alcohol being a central nervous system depressant.

So alcoholics are skinny as a rule...and have very bad livers.

          Not on ...

          ... the Guinness Diet!

According to the good folks of St. James's Gate, you'll stay thin, trim, and in the pink of health! At least, they used to say that.

Perhaps that's also due to that rugged "urban survivalist" regimen that might include various track & field events with the local constabulary, various merchants, and particularly those mad dashes and Olympic record worthy sprints to be the first in-line when the liquor store opens in the morning.

I'm very thin. I eat like a pig and drink like a fish. I do probably take more naps than the average "not an old fart" person though...

You're right, it is a demanding, on-the-go lifestyle.

The secret of thin ( ok,one , maybe)

I've lost 30 lbs in the last three months and I am on the way to losing more.

The secret? adapt your body to slow digestive greens ( String bean leaf, beet leaves, chopped Green tomatoes, etc)

It slows down your digestion so you feel full, but adds few calories.

the drawback is it is a slow adaptive process - and you do have to stay close to a washroom for the first month or so...

fad diets don't work, and are expensive.
