  • Army rations

    http://www.jacarandafm.com/post/army...und-the-world/

Be thankful for that boring desk lunch - when the guardians of the planet are out there keeping the peace, they're chowing down on some cutting edge meals that will probably survive the apocalypse! From self heating pouches that require no flame, to deer pate and chicken tikka masala. There are also warnings on some chocolates that they could double as laxatives! There's definitely room for some technological advancement.

The standard issue for the South African army rat-pack comes with cereal, soup, two cans of tinned food, energy bars, biscuits, fire tablets, matches, coffee, sugar and creamer, some condiments, crackers, sweets and chewing gum. Enough for a day, but can be rationed out in extreme survival cases.
    aus

Vegemite. Jam sandwich biscuits. Tube of sweetened condensed milk. Fonterra processed cheddar cheese. Meatballs and chili tuna pasta.
    uk

Kenco coffee. Mini bottle of Tabasco. Chicken tikka masala. Vegetarian pasta. Pork and beans. Trail mix. Apple “fruit pocket” snacks. Packets of Polos. Teabags.
    us

Almond poppy seed pound cake. Cranberries. Non-alcoholic apple cider. Peanut butter and crackers. Pasta with vegetable crumbles in spicy tomato sauce. Just-add-water powder to heat up plastic meal pouch.

Pretty intruiging stuff, don't you think? Certainly far from fine-dining though. Were you ever in the armed forces? Do you remember what your rations contained? Drop us a comment below.

        Beat this, spoiled brats-
1 can of "Loof" ("Kosher Spam" made from chicken and/or beef)
        4 cans of Tuna
        1 can of halvah spread
1 can of chocolate halvah spread
1 can of sardines or another can of Loof
        a can of pickles
        a can of sweet corn
a can of olives or a can of nuts
        pre-sweetened beverage powder
        2 small packets of mustard
        a small packet of ketchup
        4 plastic spoons
        folding can opener
        small bag of hard candy
        several thin plastic trash bags

This is for 4 soldiers per meal or 1 soldier for 24 hours.

However, this is the old version, the new version is even worse, essentially just tuna, a can of fruit and, cocoa and vegi spreads.

We used to eat it straight up, we called it cancer powder 'cause of the ingredients.

We'd also smear the cocoa spread on the plastic bag, put some pennants and another layer of cocoa and let it dry out in the sun all day, if the stars aligned right you'd get a home made Snickers for dinner....
