Why does the liberal party compare Conservatives to Nazis?
Its basic knowledge that the nazis were socialists which are the antithisis of conservatism.

    WHY?

Academically speaking on the political spectrum: Nazi and neo-nazi groups are right-wing extremists.

The comparison between the two is basically the same as accusing liberals of being communists. There are extreme differences all around, but on a 2d spectrum, that's how it lays out.
“To discriminate against a thoroughly upright citizen because he belongs to some particular church, or because, like Abraham Lincoln, he has not avowed his allegiance to any church, is an outrage against that liberty of conscience which is one of the foundations of American life.”

As time goes by, these 'labels' seem to have less and less meaning. In Canada, the Liberals are conservative, and the Conservatives are liberal, (insert Pink Floyd music) and nothing, is ve-ry much fun, anymore...

Here's my take on it. National Socialism is extremism, yes. But it uses aspects from both the left and right.

That's why, IMHO, the left-right thing is pointless.

No, Nazi's were fascist. They weren't socialist.

It still borrows from things on both sides, in fact, the problem with the spectrum is, that it breaks down the farther one goes from the center.

However, it is useful until a point. The thing is, while everyone throws around liberals being communists, that doesn't work either. Communism also borrows from both ends of the spectrum.

And yes, the socialist in the name was just that, remember, they hated the communists, and socialists are a step from communists.

Accually,If you look into Fascism,It's quite different from National Socialism,The govts of Italy,Spain,Rumania and all fascist. I try to avoid using the word Fascist in a negative context due to the fact that this is a communist practice since the 1930's. (They dont like the 'socialist' part in their title.)

Nazism & US Conservatism...some similarities (at least in the liberal perspective):

-They advocate a strong form of nationalism and the superiority/righteousness of their culture.

-Strong inclination towards 'patriotism'. Dissent from public policy and established tradition may be seen as unpatriotic, or even 'treasonous' by some ultra-conservatives.

-Both tend to strongly enforce social conformity of desired behaviors, values, and the 'public morality'.

-An expansionist (some say imperialist) inclination with regards to foriegn policy.

-Belief in a strong military to accomplish goals in the international community (whether by obtaining Lebensraum, dealing with 'security threats', and/or liberating people).

I have often wondered that myself. But the Nazi government took policies from both sides of the political spectrum...most of them from the left so to speak.
