One in three Dutch men would choose watching soccer over wife's birthday

Fri Jun 4, 1:31 PM ET

AMSTERDAM (AP) - Marriage counsellors may do brisk business in the Netherlands during the upcoming European Championships.

A recent poll shows one in three Dutch men think watching their national team on television play at the Euro2004 games in Portugal is more important than celebrating their wife's birthday.

Male respondents said either their spouses should watch the game too, or that any birthday party should be postponed until afterward. Women were not asked.

The poll of 400 men was sponsored by the Dutch broadcaster KRO and carried out by research company Intomart.

I voted for the wife, too. That way I'll get to live to the next game. And won't wake up neutered.

The good thing is that my wife would rather go to the game anyway.

            Under-Reporting

I wouldn't be surprised if this would actually be under-reporting.

We're better trained in the rest of the world I guess....

There's a big gap between what I'd rather be doing and which is actually more important.
If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.
