  • What did US aircraft hit?

Read the accounts on CNN and Fox News US officials inside and outside of Iraq insist that US aircraft hit a convoy of "anti-coalition vehioles" and a safe house for foreign fighters, while Iraqi officials and civilians say that a wedding party attacked. The attack occurred at about 0300 local. Certainly there will be an investigation, and hopefully a definitive solution will be reached. This is only one of several incidents that, each by itself, is not a serious incident - together, however, they must cause the Iraqi people to wonder if it all truly IS worth it. They have been so terribly abused, disenfranchised, dispossessed and lied to, that any misdeeds are magnified in their minds. With the abuse scandal fresh in their minds, what must be their opinions of us. We have some serious bridge-building and fence-mending to do.

Except that was a Navy F-18 who bombed our allies. Something I feel a lot of regret for.

        Cheers!

Now this happened at 3AM local. In Western Iraq near the Syrian border. Gee we've only been having some of the most intense fights of the war over there.

The news media is doing the Saigon thing for the most part and staying in their hotels in the Green Zone in Baghdad. The ones that do venture out are third world nationals who look a lot like the bad guys for some reason. So that part of the war doesn't get any coverage.

There have been some engagments over there that have involved entire Brigades with supporting arms. The Syrian border has become the primary in/out smuggling portal for money, guns, and people.

I gotta look at the 'Wedding' story will a very jaundiced eye.

Yeah, I just heard the part about a 3:am wedding along the Syrian border. Right, I'm believing that.

Not to mention that it is custom in those parts to fire off guns in celebration....

Well at 3 AM - if that was in fact a wedding party - in my mind it was no the US that got them - but rather Darwinism in action...

I mean, it is a war zone right? Those people probably maybe oughta know that by now??

One must wonder if the "attack" was a creation of the "victims", or if they are being "coached" by shadowy figures behind the scenes. The only likely way that this "wedding party" was bombed was by being in the target zone at the requisite time. Were they intimidated to do so? Was it their "duty" as "Islamic martyrs?" Will we ever know the full truth? In Iraq, so many things are not as they appear to be. In the final analysis, I sincerely believe that the air assets DID hit the designated area. Whether the "wedding party" was in the target area, or if some other fate befell them, their deaths and injuries were not the fault of the participating aircraft.

So you're assuming the Iraqis were right?

What little evidence there is doesn't agree with you.

                  1. There are no marriage decorations found in the rubble (as were shown on that video).

                  2. The man shown playing the music was already dead before that day, and (IIRC) his death was in Baghdad.

Even if there were a wedding (which it doesn't look like), as BG Kimmett said, "bad people get married, too".

You just have to remember those early AM weddings CAN be dangerous. They should have eloped.

Here's some more on the supposed "wedding":

                        "Wedding Party" Details

Just reviewed a classified brief on the supposed wedding - no way it was. Here are some unclass details I can provide (brief had lots of pictures to back up the details):

                        - Weddings traditionally held on Thursdays in Iraq to take advantage of Friday as a day of rest - raid took place on Tuesday night.

                        - Only permanant dwelling at the site held large stocks of food, bedding, medical supplies (lots of these

                        - was the wedding going to be a cage match of some sort or were the caterers just bad cooks?), ammunition and weapons, as well as an apparant document forging set up. Meat was still frozen solid - not prepared for a wedding feast and there were no stocks of dishes, plates, etc.

                        - Contrary to media reports, no "Nuptial Tent" was found and a 1KM area around the site was searched - any further away than that would be just too far for the catering staff to walk carrying all those huge platters of food - against union rules.

                        - No evidence of any means of support for the house (like sheep farming which is most common in that area). All evidence pointed to a smuggler way station - fit perfectly the description of several other found in the past.

                        - "Wedding guests" (deceased of course) were almost all men of military age, only a couple of women, no elders at all and only one child (wounded) noted. All dressed as city dwellers, not bedouins who would hold a wedding at such a location.

All of the deceased were sterilized, as in none had any form of ID on them at all. Only ID's found were in a nice neat stack inside the house - and then quite a few less of those than there were people at the site.

                        - Weapons were varied and included RPG's (they really suck when you fire them up in the air for celebration), there were also military binoculars (when they separate the men and women they have to look at each other with bino's I guess), and IED making material (party favors?).

                        - Lots of clothing prepackaged in pants and shirt sets (guerranimals for guerrilla's). - There were also no gifts, no decorations, no food set out or left over, and the good bit of money recovered was all in the pockets of the "guests" (maybe they were just cheap guests).

I strongly suspect that after their Foriegn Fighter way station got whacked, they tried to set it up to look like what happened in Afghanistan when a wedding was actually hit due to celebratory firing being taken for ground fire by orbiting aircraft. I also would not put it past the scum bags to sweep a local village for approriately aged "guests" to kill and display for the TV cameras.

Our BDA assessment was made by people on the site just after the schwacking and they took their time to count and exploit the site.

Bottom line assessment: Good hit - no wedding. These were foreign fighters that had just crossed into Iraq and got an early trip to paradise and the martyrdom hall of fame.

Thought it was important to get this word out as much as possible as you won't see any of this on CNN. Take care,

I keep reminding myself that the media's target is the President, not the military, but I just wish they would tell the truth from time to time.
