  • Your countries decorations

Being a military history fanatic, could you post your countries highest decorations for military and civilian? I'll start with my country, Canada:

    Military: Victoria Cross
    Civilian: Cross of Valour

    UK would be:

    Military: Victoria Cross
    Civilian: George Cross??

    US would be:

    Military: Congressional Medal of Honour
    Civilian: ??

    France would be:

    Military: Légion d'Honneur??
    Civilian: ??

    Thanks

I believe 8 civilians have recieved the Medal of Honor. So that would make it the highest award for US civilians also.

The only problem is that Steven Spielberg was awarded the highest honor of the country to a civilian. I can't remember the name of it but it WASN'T the medal of honor. The criterea make a militarty only medal.

Spielberg and Hanks were given the U.S. Navy's highest civilain honor, the Distinguished Public Service Award. Otherwise the nation's highest civilain honor would be the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which I don't believe Spielberg has recieved. But, although the Medal of Honor is a military honor, some civilians have recieved it, such as civilian Army scouts in the 19th century. Therefore, I believe that would be a higher honor for a civilian than the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
