  • Grandparent at Age of 37!

Here's a non-political post. How would you like to be a grandparent at the age of 37?

Yep. In my archival work today, I came across a 1969 file that lists an applicant having been born in 1932 and her firstborn daughter was born in 1953. This daughter at unspecified age gave birth to a girl (age unknown) and is listed as granddaughter in the applicant's household.

I should note that since this was 1960's, occasionally you will see Indian female applicants under age of maturity being married to older guys and having children before they reach 18. In some cases, they are not married at all and had children out of wedlock.

But this is first time I have seen a young female applicant under 40 being a grandparent at the time of her application.

On another relative note, it is also noted that in modern times, the youngest person to become a grandparent is in Great Britain. He became a father at age of 14, when his son was born. The son later at age of....yep, you guessed it right, fourteen, had a child. So the son's father became a grandparent at age of 28.

    Scary, isn't it?

My Brother in Law married a girl that turned up pregnant. She delivered a daughter at 14. She told the daughter to find a place to stay tears later when the SIL wanted to go on vacation with some guy (they were divorced at this time). Along came the Granddaughter when SIL was 30 and the daughter was 16! This daughter had a baby at 15! That makes my ex-SIL a Great Grandmother at 45. I don't see them often anymore and there may have been another generation born. I guess you can say these women found something they liked doing?

My BIL has a Car Lot and now has money, so they are always visiting him. Only the second child in my BIL's marriage looks like him. All generations resemble my ex SIL! At least my two girls look a bit like me and have Type A Blood like me. The SIL is not a minority, just a Poor White.

Somehow I find the notion of being a great-grandparent at age of 45 a bit...disturbing to say at least.

          "I'm My Own Grandpa"

          Now, many many years ago
          When I was twenty three
I was married to a widow
Who was pretty as could be

This widow had a grown-up daughter
          Had hair of red
My father fell in love with her
And soon the two were wed

This made my dad my son-in-law
          And changed my very life
          My daughter was my mother
'Cause she was my father's wife

          To complicate the matters
Even though it brought me joy
          I soon became the father
          Of a bouncing baby boy

          My little baby then became
          A brother-in-law to dad
          And so became my uncle
Though it made me very sad

For if he was my uncle
That also made him the brother
          Of the widow's grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother

          I'm my own grandpa
          I'm my own grandpa
          It sounds funny I know
          But it really is so
          I'm my own grandpa

My father's wife then had a son
That kept them on the run
          And he became my grandchild
For he was my daughter's son

My wife is now my mother's mother
          And it makes me blue
          Because, she is my wife
          She's my grandmother too

          I'm my own grandpa
          I'm my own grandpa
          It sounds funny I know
          But it really is so
          I'm my own grandpa

Now, if my wife is my grandmother
          Then, I am her grandchild
And every time I think of it
          It nearly drives me wild

          For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw
As the husband of my grandmother
          I am my own grandpa

          I'm my own grandpa
          I'm my own grandpa
          It sounds funny I know
          But it really is so

Oh boy. If that were true, then it'd make me glad not to get married or have a child. A bachelor's life is lonely but worry free of such details like above.

Just kidding. However, it does boggle the mind seeing that a such thing could happen like becoming a grandparent under 40.

An aunt of mine gave birth to her first child at the age of 15, so it didn't take long for her to become a grandmother.

My nephew was 17 years old when his wife gave birth to their oldest daughter. The two daughters have since given birth to three sons and my nephew has been a grandfather for a number of years.

The age of marriage with parental consent in George was 13 for girls and 16 for boys, IIRC. Had a pair of otherwise dependent kids who were patients at Madigan AMC back in the day. along with their baby. Scary...

A guy I worked with was a grandfather at 36. His wife gave birth at 18, and so did his daughter.

He saw no humor in it at all.
