  • Glass Monument to Che in Venezuela Shot

A glass monument to revolutionary icon Ernesto "Che" Guevara was shot up and destroyed less than two weeks after it was unveiled by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's government.

Images of the 8-foot-tall glass plate bearing Guevara's image, now toppled and shattered, were shown Friday on state television, which said the entire country "repudiated" the vandalism.

The monument on an Andean mountain highway near the city of Merida was unveiled Oct. 8 by Vice President Jorge Rodriguez and Cuba's ambassador to Venezuela to mark the 40th anniversary of Guevara's death.

Chavez venerates Guevara as a model socialist for all Venezuelans. He named a state-funded adult education program "Mission Che Guevara," and murals of the iconic revolutionary have become a common sight in Venezuela.
Police said they had yet to identify those responsible. The Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional published a copy of what it said was a flier found by the monument signed by the previously unknown "Paramo Patriotic Front."
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated... again...

I wonder if it was political or just plain vandalism ?

Well, isn't this a nice package?

Can't wait for Chavez to blame George Bush for this one.

Che murdered thousands, and is venerated by all...all is quite an absolute term, and a little suspicious coming from state-controlled media.

I'm glad they shot this monument down. Screw Guevara and Chavez.

Trust me, if a monument was dedicated to OJ, under the pretense that he was a model husband, I'd shoot it full of holes too.

Hugo should have seen this one coming . . .

Che lived by the gun. The end of his glass house should have been totally predictable.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

In my opinion here is a good overview of Che from an independent organization.

I don't know. Big piece of glass in the middle of nowhere? Probably a very tempting target

What I am waiting for is for some patriotic Venezuelans to build a monument of Chavez using organic material, ie manure. I am sure most of us readers will agree most politicians are certainly full of it!

Have you been struck by the jawbone of an ASS lately?

My knee jerk immediate response is to laugh my butt off.

Now they know how we feel when imbeciles defile things like veteran graves.

Glass monument in middle of nowhere? I hope it cost some naive fool a lot of cash too.
Life is change. Built models for decades.
Not sure anyone here actually knows the real me.
                I didn't for a long time either.
