  • A tribute to one of the world's greatest ladies.

I wish this lady was still around.
Just hearing her voice once again, brings a smile to my face.

I don't know much about her performances except for the "HOWWWWDDDEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!" and that hat with the price tag.

But I do know that she was a "lady" that came from an affluential family and graduated from a very prestigeous ladies' school. Her choice of career caused a family and community scandal. I believe she started her career producing and directing plays.

Sarah Ophelia "Minnie Pearl" Colley was a fine comediean for her day and any other day for that matter. She had a fine, yet gentle sense of the absurd and made people laugh with her sometimes self-depreciating humor. She was a fine woman and is much missed in this modern day world.

Brings back memories of childhood visits to my grandmother's house, where a sumptuous dinner of Polish "soul food" was followed by the ritual of viewing an episode of Hee-Haw, featuring Minnie Pearl, of course !

ahhh - those were the days !
A whole show full of hillarious stuff with nary a cuss word or vile innuendo to be seen or heard !

            Rest In Peace, Minnie !

I hated Hee Haw growing up. My dad loved it. I remember him dragging us to some fair or some such thing in Washingston State when I was in 1st grade to see/listen/suffer through a Buck Owens concert. I think Roy (last name?) was there too. Might have been a Hee Haw show I can't remember.

I should look for reruns on cable to see if my tastes have changed over the years.
