  • Favorite Classic Black & White Movies

Had a conversation a few days ago with another member about some of the great old classic B&W movies. The sort shown often on TCM. I suggested a short list of some of my favorites including:

    The Grapes of Wrath
    Citizen Kane
    The Shop Around the Corner
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Ninotchka
    Sunset Blvd.
    Moby Dick
    Stairway To Heaven
    White Heat

    And anything by Harold Lloyd.

    What are some of yours?

I like "No Time for Sergeants" which stars a very young Andy Griffith. It is very funny. I also like "Citizen Kane" but it has been a very long time since I have seen that one though.
    "Rosebud"

"Get three coffins ready" The Man With No Name

I remember my dad taking me to see it at the theatre on base. I must have been in 2nd or 3rd grade. Awesome movie. I've got it but have not been able to watch it since my dad died. Same with Gods and Generals the last movie we watched (took 2 days has it was during the last few weeks and he didn't have the strength).

[edit] Yes I know that the second movie is in color.

                        Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times"

First time I saw it I was about 10, and I think I fell in love for the first time when I saw Paulette Goddard in that movie...no wait...maybe it was Princess Leia from Star Wars that was my first love
