  • Interplanetary Trajectory

The Cassini spacecraft does not have enough energy to simply fly to Saturn in a straight line. This interesting diagram shows how the ship uses the gravitational pull of the Solar System planets to swing around them and be catapulted to the next objective, slingshot style. Isn't human intellect amazing? If only all of that creative could be harnessed for the good of humanity, not just destrution and killing.

Cool diagram, MZ, and a good thought also.

      Planetary Exploitation

The Interstellar Sierra Club Consortium will be filing suit as plaintif against the featherless bi-peds of Terra (known hereinafter as 'Humans') in the Galactic Court of Frivolous Suits on behalf of the planetary bodies known as 'Venus' and 'Jupiter' for the non-consensual theft of orbital velocity resulting from the so-called 'slingshot' maneuvers performed by enslaved robotic entities launched against their will from Terra. This theft has resulted in the aforementioned planetary bodies orbiting 0.000000000000000000000000000000000001 mm farther from the light giving star known as 'Sol'.
      You have been warned.

          If only...

The critical difference between navigating the planets and solving humanity's problems is that celestial bodies are actually pretty predictable, follow specific laws of behavior, and aren't out for themselves. Humanity is none of these.
