  • What's wrong with these people?

Once again Islamic extremists have captured people whom they threaten to behead if the US doesn't cave into their demands. How many people are these idiots planning to decapitate before they figure out that this little stratigem isn't working?

Reports are just coming out that one hostage, believed to be Spc. Keith M. Maupin, 20, has been executed. There is somekind of video that shows a hostage apparently being shot in the back of the head. Maupin was taken captive on April 9.

As for Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, there is considerable talk about what happened to him. CENTCOM says he was on an unathorized absense (I know, no *hit). Kimmitt said they thought he might be heading to Lebannon. The video released by Al-Jerreza also has some people thinking he might be more cooperative. However, until more evidence surfaces to the contrary, I support classifying Hassoun as a hostage.

Those necrophiles just like to kill, their demands are like the demands issued by Hans Gruber in Diehard ("release all members of Asian Dawn").

Maupin was captured after an attack on his convoy 9 April

In videotaped and written statements mailed to Aljazeera, a previously unknown Iraqi group has claimed it has executed a US soldier it captured in April.

Keith M. Maupin, 20, of Batavia, Ohio, who was listed as captured on April 16 by the US Department of Defense (DOD), was executed because the Bush administration did not change its policies in Iraq, the statement said.

The group - calling itself the Persistent Power Against the Enemies of God and the Prohphet - claimed the execution was also in revenge for what it called atrocities committed against "Muslim martyrs" in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Algeria.

In the videotape, which was aired on the Aljazeera Satellite Channel early on Tuesday, Maupin is seen talking to the camera.

He is dressed in military fatigues.

Aljazeera said it catered to viewers' sensitivities and did not broadcast the execution but said Maupin appeared blindfolded in front of a freshly-dug grave with his back to the camera.

He was then shot in the head.

        DOD statement

According to a DOD statement, Maupin and Sargeant Elmer C. Krause, 40, of Greensboro, North Carolina were categorized as duty status - whereabouts unknown on 9 April.

Individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire attacked their convoy. Both soldiers were assigned to the Army Reserve’s 724th Transportation Company, from Bartonville, Illinois, the statement said.

It is really pathetic. The terrorists likely shot this soldier out of anger of the early transfer, which probably screwed up their plans to use violence to overshadow the event.
