If it's so hot there all the time, why are your posts always so half-baked?

Sorry, but such crass and smug indifference to the suffering of others really pisses me off...

It seems that lot of Overseas people don't understand that air conditioning is strictly a loss of money here. We are not underdevelloped country. We are in a temperate climate. Main temperatures in summer are 25° in north 30° in south. it is not necessary to have a cooler temperature.

No the disaster is the lack of compasion to our ederly whose majority is living alone with no contact with the external world except TV.
Lack of response of French health minister to inform politics of the danger the heat wave do encouring to old people.

It is like a earthquake, you don't expect it but you can prepare your services to react to such a catastrophe

          Thanks to Jamian

Almost all of the dead were the elderly who wouldn't have been able to deal with the sudden rise in the temperature as easily as a younger able bodied person would.

There are probably certain things you unconsciously do in the 110 degree quarters you inhabit to keep from overheating. For example drinking more fluids, staying in the shade, and even breathing differently. The elderly French don't have experience with the heat and can't adjust like an creature of the desert like yourself.

Heat can kill you before you realize it is a threat. Twenty or thirty minutes in 100+ temps can kill you anyone if they don't drink enough fluids. Numerous children died this year because their parents left them in cars for just twenty minutes or less. As has already been stated, the very young and the elderly either don't know, or lack the ability to keep themselves safe in such conditions. In most neighborhoods, people are advised to check up on each other on very hot days.

France has suffered an enormous tradegy. I am not very fond of the French government (and after this nightmare, I don't the French are either), yet I do extend my deepest sympathy to the French people.

Well there are a ton of elderly people in phoenix. I thought this was supposed to be the amazing socialist health care system that was so superior to the primitive United States. Yet they don't even have air conditioning in the hospitals. Yeah that sounds like the kind of system we need to be adopting.

I don't understand this logic, it doesn't support you stance against socialist health care. If we don't want their system because of air conditioning problems, then that opens up other ways of looking at the issue. Given that the overall health of the French is better than the Americans, we should therefore adopt their health care system.

Yes this is the true problem, in this society where only profit and productive people are the only interesting things/people. The poor or no more consuming people receive few care.

I think France has been shoked bitterly and deeply by this societal crisis. The number of death was so high that a global reflection on managing old fellows is on the way. Wait and see

Or maybe it is a society that believes the government should solve all its problems from cradle to grave and therefore completely abdicated the familial and community responsibility that once existed.
