  • Doing The Work Thing

Fixing to have to go in to work for a 12 hour shift. Not really looking forward to it. Anyone else feel this way?

Not now that I have to struggle to get hours.
Maybe there are only two kinds of work? Too much and too little?
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

In my line of work, there is no such thing as "too" busy.

It isn't so much that the Child Bride doesn't listen to me, its that she is smart enough to make me listen when she talks that screws up my leisure time!

Make sure you are paying into Social Security! It is almost time for me to start getting my cut!

My old body's shot and there's very little I can do.

2 jobs, mids to days to 4 hours sleep then again. Kinda blows, but ya do what ya gotta do.

Work. It seems like I never stop working. It's constant--clients call and e-mail regardless of what time of day it might be, and I feel compelled to respond. It creates a self-fulfilling prophecy--they come to expect that level of service, and so I am trapped by it.

I have four employees who rely upon me, both to generate business and also for leadership, so I have little choice but to get up every day and go to the office whether I feel like it or not. The last sick day I had was on Groundhog Day in 2011, when I had surgery on my shoulder. I missed that day and the next, and haven't had a sick day since.
