  • No More WAR trailers!!!

Damn! I am hoping the "The War" documentary will will be a good one....but bleedin darn $%^& banners cause slow down and lag!!! I try but it's sometimes hard to avoid rolling the mouse over them so the trailer plays as well. I mean I don't mind the intro page before I enter the forum but does it have to be so "in your face" in the forum as well?? Sorry just ranting and venting at the start of the week.

True, I also find them annoying but remember those adverts allow us to enjoy these forums for free.

First off, thank you for your patience with this. We are still working out the bugs of this campaign, for which there have been a few.

Secondly, thanks for your understanding that these types of campaigns will allow us to keep the site going for many years to come. This is great news for everyone.

In the future, we will make sure that banners like this are ONLY click-to-activate with their movie rather than by accidental rollover. I also find it easy to trigger them by accident while here on the forums where you are moving your mouse to all the menus.

In short, we hear you, we understand, and we'll do our best to alleviate what we can.

Thanks SH, I understand we need ads, but as I said, we don't need ads that interfere with the site. Clever folks can design adverts that do the job. Thanks again.

            Annoying, vexing, bothersome.

But thank god that's the limit of things in my day that can be described that way Brian

I think we'll get over it hehe.

If numbers count, add me to the columns of annoyed but understanding. I also appreciate SH's post. And just for the "hat trick", Aries hit the major point. Would this be the time for a GROUP HUG!!

If you use Mozilla Firefox (a web browser that I highly suggest) then there are applications that prevent banners or ads from appearing.
I am not saying it's a cure all, and it will most likely affect the other adverts, but if you want to give it a swing then go right ahead, it's just my personal suggestion until the ad ends.

Otherwise, I want to see The War, so the effort isn't wasted.

Who and what do you think pays for this site, mate.

Click the advert so we here get a bit of revenue here.

There are ads then there are ads...surely one can design less intrusive ads?? I was at a uni library with IE 6 and the ads froze up the browser. Pretty useless for the stated purpose then eh? No problem other than what I said with Firefox or IE 7.0 I do click on ads regularly and won't use a blocker on this site...I just want an ad that doesn't muck up the site.

BTW I played a few of the trailers, looks bloody good.

I didn't see one of these trailers (Flashblock) and this site is still a browser pig. After my recent report it first went better, but now it's bad again.

I think something else is going on here, it is not Flash that is slowing things down.

I just added Verizon's Security Suite to my anti-virus and they have an ad blocker that takes them right out.

Also...there are advertisers and then there are advertisers...

When the number 1 prestigious documentary filmmaker in the US - - Ken Burns -- and the number 1 prestigious TV station -- PBS -- say they would like to run their ads on our humble website our first words are YES. YES. YES. Not to ask what type of ads they want to run.

We do understand the frustration I have had some of my own problems on the site but I know the team is working to fix them.

Thanks for your patiance and support. These advertisers are important to us. And we'll learn about how to do this better each time.

I want to go on the record here - and second this one... Yep, ads are annoying - but how else are we going to get companies to fund our habits!!!

Here's to the week-end warriors and late-nite admin guys who keep this site running! May the times go slow and the ads bring dough!

                              Thanks again guys!
