    Armenian messenger !!!

    10th of April

    Emperor and senators of Rome,

I wish to report to you that an Armenian horseman has arrived in my city and I have heard him out.
He asserts that he is part of the Armenian resistance that is currently fighting the Parthian invaders in the countryside and mountains. Although they currently can only count on a small, mostly raw, army of 2.000 troops it is led however by former officers of the Armenian army that have managed to escape the Parthian purges of all high political and military officials. It currently operates north of Tigranakert (4D + 5D) under the excellent leadership of Charaspes. The messenger is convinced that this small number of freedom fighters will double, even triple in size once we cross the Armenian border!
He also reports that small cavalry patrols, consisting of armoured cataphracts, are meticously surveying the entire Roman-Armenian borders from the Pontus to Edessa (2E, 3D, 4C and 5C).
A substantial force consisting of Parthian infantry and Eastern horse archers under general Phraates is stationed in the Armenian capital and surrounding area. Intelligence from the capital report that it consists of about 10.000 largely raw troops.
As for Phraates, he rules with utmost brutality. Any scent of rebellion among the Armenian citizens is ruthlessly quelled in blood. All the Armenian courtiers, politicians, Roman officials and traders have either been executed or are rotting away in the city dungeons. Phraates lets his men burn, plunder and loot freely ever since an Armenian conspiracy to murder him has been uncovered last month. He is of middle age and his popularity among the troops is good. His military past however is one of mediocrity, he has lost as many campaings as he has won them. His current appointment in the war against us by king Arsaces III is due largely to his immense political influence in the Parthian court.
The messenger further asserts us that Charaspes and his army will be at Rome's disposal as soon as possible. Once the news arrives that we have crossed the border, he will send an envoy to discuss further cooperation in the ensuing campaign to free Armenia and the world of the terrible Parthian scourge...

As for me, great Senate and Emperor of Rome, my Roman legionaries, my African war elephants and my Macedonian cavalry are ready and eager to strike !!!!

    I salute you,

    Quintus Secundus
Commander of Legio XIV Fulminata "Thunderbolt" stationed at Melitine in the province of Cappadocia

          Dispatch From Gaius Maximus,

Now my good Generals and Senators, what of the recovery of Falco's body, as he is a legatus and if is body fell into roman hands it would be a major diplomatic insult and a major blow to roman honor.

Now, the body is in DIV, and is in the hands of the armenian resistance. Now, with general Falco's state I have been helping support the armenian resistance and the armenian government in exile.

Now King Volegeles wishes me to be the liaison between the armenian government in exile and the roman state.

Also, the armenian king wishes to be involved in the planning and offers the support of the armenian resistance movements and the kings personal forces, which are about engouh to form a recon element, they are many armenian refugees that are egar to fight back against the men that raped and pillaged there country

Also I have learned alot about commanding troops and especially Calvary in my 3 decades of service with falco and humbly offer my services if you see it fit.

Rome's loyal servant and executor of Odar Maximus's estate

          Gaius Maximus

The latest reports from my patrols suggest that the enemy are moving along the Chaboras river (C6 + D6) between Nicephorium and Edessa. The population here, between the Euphrates and our province, don't seem particulary hostile although many prefer to avoid us, in fear of Parthian retaliation. Other locals and traders however confirm that they have seen a large number of Parthian troops, mostly infantry, arriving from the interior.
According to witnesses the number of Parthian forces gathered in this area range between the 10.000 and 20.000 troops...of course these estimates can barely be called accurate!
So we now wait upon the Senate and the arrival of the 'Supreme commander'.
If the enemy do come my way, does the Senate think i shall be able to hold them, or am i incapable.

              General Paulus,

Rome has complete faith in your abilities to defend Syria and any other interests of the Empire. Judea and the Legions there are now under your command. Legio XV Flavia and Legio XX Hercules both have already been alerted to march on your command.

                  Praeco de Romae v.X (WAR!)

                  Romans, war is upon us!

Emperor Sal has decided to take the war to the Parthians. He has taken swift action to place our Legions on the Armenian and Parthian borders. The Senate is quickly trying to catch up with the movements ordered by the Emperor.

It is rumored that Sal has placed Legatus Drusus in Supreme Command of the Parthian Campaign. This was a very confusing appointment as many thought Drusus was here in Rome (Rumors place him still in Moesia) and others thought that Legatus Paulus, a very experienced leader already on the scene, would be the obvious choice for Command.

May the Gods Bless our Legions as they protect our eastern frontier!

                  Senator Plinius calls for Oversight!

Senator Plinius gave one of the most impassioned speeches of his career this week in the Senate. Plinius and many others were surprised by the Emperor's swift action and more surprised that he did not seek counsel with the Senate prior to mobilizing for war. Most upsetting for Plinius was that Sal the Great named Drusus to command and promoted Rubinus to Legate without seeking the advice or consent of the Senate. Plinius has made clear his wish that the Senate be involved in all decisions and has questioned the usurpation of power by the Emperor. Hearings may start next week.

                  Orontes Zig

Senator Honorius has made public another attempt of bribery by one Orontes Zig. Questions and rumors abound regarding this man. Who does he represent? How many people is he trying to bribe? Who has already given in to this man? Details will be made available as soon as we know more.

                  12:13 and all is well.

The Emperor has always sought peace. He did send Envoys to seek peace and trade with Parthia. Were our ROMAN Envoys not murdered? Rome sought peace and prosperity, Parthia chose war and dishonor. Parthia has enslaved our friends and allies. That was a clear challenge to the strength of Rome and those who hail Rome. War was decided by Pathia, and then war is what we shall give them.

The Senate can discuss all they want. The Generals want to plan without politicans second guessing everything, even as they know nothing of war.

Then politely ask him. I he says no, you can go cry in you corner. If he says yes, you can think of yourself fortunate to be back in the game.

                                Dear players,

Please send the initial positions of the Roman armies and their troop movements for the future to Achtung Baby. He has been so kind as to use the maps to show us the placements of both armies for every gameturn as I do not have the technology to do this.
He will post map B, with the positions of the troops, on this thread.

Thank you very much Achtung !
