  • Rnd 1 Grp 4 - Challenger 1/2 (Britain) vs C1 Ariete (Italy)

Round 1, Group 4: Challenger 1/2 (Britain) vs C1 Ariete (Italy)

The modern Challenger tanks have filled the role of Britain’s premier MBT since about 1983/84 and Challenger 2 is generally regarded as one of the World’s best Main Battle Tanks today. The Challengers have both proved themselves in action.

The C1 Ariete can be regarded in general terms as Italy’s equivalent; but with a bit less emphasis on armour and a bit more speed. It has been designed and built to be at least competitive against the MBTs of any likely opponent. Some Ariete tanks were deployed to Iraq in 2004.

Which of these modern machines will get your vote? The proven British champ or the ‘dark horse’ from Italy?

Only one of these two candidates will make it to the next round!

Which of them is the most significant and/or influential?

"England expects that every man will do his duty!" (English crew members had better get ready for a tough fight against the combined French and Spanish fleets because that's what England expects! However, Scotland, Wales and Ireland appear to expect nothing so the Scottish, Welsh and Irish crew members can relax below decks if they like!)

Based on combat history, I went Challenger 2.

Challenger II, I like the main gun better.

        No contest: the Challenger.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

Unfortunately for the Italians I had to go with the Challenger. It is a proven weapons system, with impressive results... and it has a tea boiler.

The Italians probably stick a couple of bottles of wine in a ammo bin.

One of my old bosses used to drive Challengers. Was a consultancy firm run by colonels.

All the rest think they have the best tank, but only those who use the Challenger 2 do have.

The Ariete is a worthy contender, but it has to be the Challenger.

That's why British tanks tend to be superior .

                      Hmm,BV.

I feel a bit guilty because there is nothing at all wrong with the Ariete but due to its unsurpassed combat record I just have to go Chally.

Challenger. "Italian tanks" is an oxymoron.

Sorry, but I cannot vote for an Italian tank.
