In comparing the two, the only way the F-18 wins is it can land on a Carrier.

The Eagle does have a tail-hook. I wonder if the landing gear can take the strain of landing on a heaving deck though. Training might also be a factor. A beefed up landing gear would solve that. (Also navy pukes want to have a distinct plane rather than using the best air to air platform going on for thirty years...)

Went F-15. Tough call, but the F-15 has seen more successful air combat, especially with the Israeli's, thus can be said to directly helped stave off invasion. That's significant.

This is a tough one, these planes have much in common.

Toughest one so far. Both almost equals but the wider range of roles (EW,Tanker, etc) tips it to the Hornet for me.

Tough one, as has been said. I went with the F-15 for its combat successes and being more influential on aircraft design, though I like the F-18 better, being a Navy brat.

picked the Eagle only because of its ASAT capabilities. tho i may be mistaken that the Hornet cant handle them

Why were twice as many Hornets built than Eagles?
When you answer that question, you know the answer to the poll.

If you are just going to vote on numbers built, that is an important consideration, but not necessarily the last word on influential or significant.

Due to the Israeli's use of said aircraft, the F-15 has had a greater impact on the world stage than the F/A-18 could ever hope to achieve (so far).

We are not talking best after all, which is handy, since I do not actually know if the 15 or 18 is the better of the two .

I went with the F-15 as it has seen more combat than the F-18. and the Israelis really pushed the platform's envelope.

Both good planes but on the influential criteria the F15 has seem more action. Both as a air superiority and strike aircraft.
